Going Green

recycle

As a center, and a university, we are constantly striving to increase our eco-awareness and to make incremental improvements in our decision making - the 2008 GCEC
Conference is no different.

The complimentary conference bags are made from a recycled material and are themselves recyclable. In addition to having great little pockets and an adjustable strap, for post-conference, use they are a great size and shape to use as a farmers market tote or grocery bag— all of which played a role in our bag selection.

Name tags and lanyards—haven’t we all taken home dozens of these and then eventually thrown them away? If you do not have a desire to keep your badge holder as an everlasting momento, please consider placing it in the bin on the buses to the Desert Museum, or dropping it at the info desk if you are leaving earlier. We will reuse both the lanyards and the badge holders for future events, reducing the quantity deposited in landfills.

Recycling containers will be throughout McClelland Hall—please remember to deposit your empty water bottles in a designated plastics recycling bin rather than the trash.

The Conference Compendium is available online this year—this not only saves paper and trees but also creates an artifact of the conference for the future. We have also tried to reduce paper usage and duplication throughout conference preparation and presentation.
Most conference activities are within walking distance to minimize need for transportation.
